e&a product : the Winter Wonderland design

it's finally that time again. winter. that time of year we bundle up, buy gifts, and celebrate with those closest around us. and inspired from this Massachusetts winter (the only one i really know) came two little carved stamps, and three blank cards.

each card is individually stamped, so no two are entirely identical. and in the case of the two blue cards- the white embellishment is done by hand with a white pen. the process is actually quick, allowing me to sell them for only a dollar each. however with the hand made love that goes into each one, it makes it worth so much more to the recipient than the price tag.

e&a product : SAVE THE LAST BUFFALO ZINE!

it's finally here! I will be posting items throughout the next couple days, but first to be re-released is the save the last buffalo zine.

buffalo use to roam the gorgeous plains of the united states unbridled and untamed. now, tragically, we have lost the majority of the wild and TRUE buffalo in the last two hundred years and are down to under 4,000.

what about those buffalo farms? don't we have enough buffalo to keep producing buffalo meat? The buffalo you get from the store isn't the same as the purebred buffalo roaming around Yellowstone. they are hybred cattle-buffalo and don't have the bloodline or the natural instinct to migrate like the quickly disappearing 3,900 true buffalo.

each zine includes 2011 statistics on the buffalo and why they are in danger from the Buffalo Field Campaign, illustrated by myself. each cover is individually hand written and stamped with my own personal hand carved stamps. and to make things even better TWO DOLLARS from every zine sold is donated to the Buffalo Field Campaign! so not only are you being educated on this little known issue, but your money is going to support the Buffalo as well.

so whats a zine? it is a form of self published work (usually by photocopier) that is reproduced in small editions, and can include original and appropriated work. topics of zines can vary from political issues, to abstract thoughts. to read more, i'll link you to the zine wikipedia page.

thoughts : overwhelmed

tomorrow will begin the start of relaunching empty and amazing on etsy! Between the 20th and the 22nd, several cutesy and handmade items relating to nature and plant geekery will be released including : felted tomato hornworms, plush mealy bugs, and cards decorated with my own hand carved stamps.

and here i am feeling completely overwhelmed, as usual. my love for new projects and making things always leads me into all sorts of directions. And my constant self-criticisms make me feel like it's not enough! but i suppose the key to that is a few deep breaths and the reminder that everything takes time.

i am twenty-four and only six months out of Mass Art. I've spent those past six months working myself harder physically than i ever have, and gathering knowledge to inform these projects i have only recently begun to undertake.

things will get made, and everything will be alright - right?

i love naming things. im pretty sure its something people in general like to do. empty and amazing is the name i sell my art and craft and objects under. things i can sell as uniquely handmade multiples. these objects are mostly inspired by nature and wildlife (both flora and fauna). recently i have been making things like needle felted Tomato Hornworms, cards made with hand carved stamps, and plush mealy bugs

heather enders is a New England native with a desire to explore the country further. she graduated with a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art + Design in 2012 from the Studio For Interrelated Media department. she has experience in event planning and gallery management having put on several shows and running the Godine Family Gallery with co-manager and friend, Kimberly O'Toole.

currently she has departed from the gallery and event planning world as well as the busy hub of Boston, where she has spent the past five years, to experience and take in a more natural beauty in Central Massachusetts. She has spent the previous six months taking care of Tower Hill Botanical Garden as an intern for the horticultural staff. getting down and dirty with the plants she loves, heather used this experience to gather inspiration for future art and craft projects.

heather enders has been called a 'champion for the underdog', in her artwork, where she passionately finds voices for environmental issues that seem to get lost in the busy blur of today's digital world. enders has found a tranquility and beauty in nature that she cannot find anywhere else, and finds it deeply saddening that we as a society keep separating ourselves more and more from the natural world. the earth is a living breathing organism that we have the power to destroy and the responsibility to protect.
